With pride and great pleasure, we announce that WWIN has recently become the sponsor of the football club Željezničar. This collaboration is a natural continuation of the ambitions held by both the Željezničar football club and WWIN, and it was only a matter of time before the partnership would come to fruition. By investing in football clubs in Bosnia and Herzegovina, WWIN aims to promote domestic football with the goal of accelerating and improving its development in the future. WWIN will strive to provide Željezničar with all possible support through this sponsorship so that the renowned club can pursue the title in the WWIN BiH league in the new season, and we believe that this goal will now be more achievable.
The Željezničar football club from Sarajevo was established over a hundred years ago, in 1921, and is one of the most successful and recognizable sports organizations in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Throughout its long and rich history, Željezničar has become synonymous with success in Bosnian football, having won six Bosnian and Herzegovinian championships, one Yugoslav championship, as well as six Bosnian and Herzegovinian Cup trophies and three Bosnian and Herzegovinian Super Cups.
Željezničar has also achieved success on the international stage, and those who have followed Yugoslav football for a while will remember the 1984/85 season when the club, under the leadership of Ivica Osim, reached the semifinals of the UEFA Cup. In that competition, the "Plavi" defeated several renowned European clubs before being unfortunately knocked out by Hungarian Videoton in a dramatic two-legged tie that loyal Željezničar fans remember well. Despite the elimination, this success remains one of the most significant moments in the history of Bosnian football.
With over ten different domestic titles, Željezničar has established itself as one of the most successful clubs in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Thanks to this, Željezničar regularly competes on the European stage, with a notable achievement in the 2002/03 season when they were eliminated by the renowned English Newcastle in the third round of UEFA Champions League qualifiers.
Željezničar has always been known for its passion and loyal fan base, and the club’s biggest rival is FK Sarajevo, with whom they share a passionate city rivalry known as the "Sarajevo Derby." Naturally, Željezničar plays its matches at the famous Grbavica Stadium, which, despite the difficult times it has endured, remains a symbol of resistance and pride for all "Plavi" fans.
Throughout its rich history, Željezničar has produced a number of players who have left their mark on both domestic and international football. Notable names include Ivica Osim, Mehmed Baždarević, Josip Katalinski, Haris Škoro, and Edin Džeko, all of whom started their careers at this club and later achieved prominent careers on the international stage.
With continuous ambitions for new successes both domestically and internationally, Željezničar continues to represent a symbol of tradition, success, and sporting excellence, and the partnership with WWIN will only further solidify Željezničar’s place on the football map of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
